Through Heaven's Eyes

I had pneumonia during the last few weeks of summer and ended up in the hospital for a few days. Shout-out to Grandview Hospital for their fabulous care and food that made me almost feel like I was on vacation, despite the pain and misery of course.

While being sick was a major bummer, the hardest part for me was feeling like I didn't finish the summer well. We still had "lemonade stand" and "waterpark" on our bucket list. We had not gone to the pool as much as I had hoped. And I felt way behind on all the fun back-to-school preparations and traditions.

Never mind that my children said they had the "best summer ever." They did not skip a beat when I was sick, and they were living their very best lives with grandparents. I still felt unsuccessful. Which made me think:

How do I define "success?"

And... more importantly...

How does God define success?

When I started to ask Him this question, I didn't see "Blessed are the ones with the best family memories," or "Blessed are the ones who got the cutest photos." I love memories and photos. But I was reminded that the Lord has His own idea of success.

Then I got this song stuck in my head. It's from the cinematic masterpiece, "The Prince of Egypt." I didn't know that I could weep over a song from an animated movie, but weep I did. I hope it moves you too.

So how can you see what your life is worth

Or where your value lies?

You can never see through the eyes of man

You must look at your life

Look at your life through heaven's eyes
